What is a Bone Scan? Reason(s) for the Examination:
A bone scan is used to identify fractures, infections, infarctions, bone disorders, and tumors in the muscles and skeleton. They are used to help identify the cause of pain or fever.
Length of Exam:
Early 15 minutes of imaging is optional, 3 hours later you return for 20-40 minutes of imaging.
Preparation:
Make sure to drink plenty of fluids prior to the exam, so you are not dehydrated.
Description:
Bone tracer will be injected in a vein. Early images may or may not be performed. Three hours later you return for more imaging.
