What is a GI Bleedin Scan? Reason(s) for the Examination:

 

A GI bleeding scan is used to help locate site(s) of bleeding in your stomach, small bowel, and colon.

 

Length of Exam:

Usually 1-2 hours.

 

Preparation:

Please notify us if you are taking blood thinners or are on chemotherapy.

 

Description:

A sample of your blood will be taken from a vein in your arm. The blood will be mixed with a tracer and then re-injected back into you through a vein. Images will be taken of your abdomen for 1-2 hours
