What is Prostascint Scan for Prostate Cancer? Reason(s) for the Examination:

 

A prostascint scan is used to help identify site(s) of prostate cancer.

 

Length of Exam:

Three-part study:  Day 1, initial tracer injection takes about 5 minutes. Return five days later for another tracer injection, followed by 2 hours of imaging. Return the following day for additional 30 minutes of imaging.

 

Preparation:

None.

 

Description:

Tracer is injected into a vein and then you can leave. Return 5 days later for another injection, catheter inserted in your bladder to keep the bladder empty, followed by about 2 hours of imaging on two separate cameras. Return the following day for more imaging.
