Dr. Goergen received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria in 1983. He served an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria and received his board certification in Internal Medicine in 1986. He entered private practice in Morton, Illinois and received his Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine in 1990. Dr. Goergen was the Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria from 1990 to 1992.

Dr. Goergen returned to a residency in Radiology in 1992. He received his board certification in Radiology in 1996 and joined Central Illinois Radiological Associates, Ltd. that same year. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Radiology and the Peoria Medical Society.
